Overview

President Donald Trump said on Truth Social on Thursday that voters have themselves to blame for a stock market drop. "The Stock Market crashed today because the Dumocrats had a big Tuesday," he wrote, adding "you only have yourselves to blame." He also wrote that the market "suffered one of the Worst Days in History based on the results of the Election" and that "Your have, therefore, dropped."

Democrats won control of and in Tuesday's elections. On Thursday the tech-heavy Nasdaq fell about 5.5%, led by a sell-off in AI-linked stocks. The Dow and S&P 500 also fell sharply.

The New York Post reports the Dow lost 1,833 points and the S&P 500 fell 4.36%. The sell-off came amid investor fears about the future of AI and data centers after the Democratic wins. Stocks had surged on Wednesday.

Trump added that "we" will soon, "one way or the other," be "BIGGER AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE." In another Thursday post, he said Republicans lost because he "WASN'T ON THE BALLOT."

Trump lashing out at voters after midterm defeat

The Daily Beast says Trump "lashed out" at voters who helped Democrats sweep both chambers. It cites his handling of the economy and the Iran war, which it says sent gas prices soaring, as among the key reasons for the Republican losses. It also quotes Trump calling it "largely true" that gas prices contributed, and saying he "WASN'T ON THE BALLOT."

Axios opens with Trump telling voters they have themselves to blame. It explains the drop as an AI-linked sell-off after Democrats who campaigned on restricting AI won, and notes the plunge followed a big rally on Wednesday. The Independent's live blog is headlined "Trump (correctly) points finger at Democrats."

It places the post among a running count of Democratic wins, with 247 House seats projected for Democrats and 147 for Republicans, and reports of turmoil inside the administration. The White House denied one of those reports, about Marco Rubio.

Trump's blame beside Wednesday's surge and Thursday's drop

The Hill's headline quotes Trump telling voters "You only have yourselves to blame," and it reports he said the market "suffered one of the Worst Days in History" on Thursday, a day after a surge that followed Democrats' midterm victories. Forbes reports that major indexes had one of their worst closes of Trump's second term after a Democratic "blue wave."

Trump's posts and the record market losses

The Washington Examiner opens with Trump's post telling voters they have themselves to blame. It reports Democrats retook both chambers with at least 253 House seats and at least 54 Senate seats in what pundits coined a "bluenami." It links the sell-off to AI stocks and to winning candidates such as Sherrod Brown and Gina Hinojosa, who criticized data center expansion.

The New York Post says Trump "fumed" and reports $5.4 trillion shed by S&P 500 and Nasdaq companies, in "single-day records." It adds that Trump expressed optimism the market would recover and recalls his Wednesday post that "Your 401(k)s are through the roof." Just the News says Trump "appeared to blame"

Democrats. In his first post he blamed the election results. In the second, it says, he "seemed to blame voters directly."

Axios reports that futures slipped again in pre-market trading late Thursday and that Asian markets were broadly lower, which it says points to the potential for another rough day Friday.
