ABRAnews Three sides to every story.

How we work

ABRAnews is A Better Read on America: the main news of the United States and the big world events, every story with its three sides. We do not try to change your mind. We show who says what and let you decide.

Where the news comes from

About 75 news outlets with public feeds. Each has its side by AllSides, an independent rating of media bias: liberal, center or conservative. Statements of government bodies are shown separately as official sources. We read the full articles, write our own text and link to the originals.

How a story is made

A story starts when at least three outlets from at least two sides report the same event. The overview and the three sides are written from the articles only, with no words of our own. Every sentence is then checked against the articles twice: the facts, who said what, the balance between the sides. A story that does not pass is not published. The texts are then translated into Spanish and Russian and checked again.

The three sides

Liberal, Center and Conservative show how outlets of that side present the story, in their own strongest form. The center is not the truth in the middle. It is how centrist outlets report. When a side has barely covered a story, we say so instead of inventing its position. The bar under a headline shows how many outlets of each side reported it.

Money and daily life

This block appears only when a story has a real effect on prices, taxes, loans or work. When it does not, there is no block.

Votes

Under each story you can say which side made the stronger case. Votes are anonymous, there are no accounts, one vote per device. Results appear once a story has a few votes.

Mistakes

Every story has a link to its sources, so you can check us. If something is wrong, write to us. We check it against the articles and fix the text.

What we do not do

No opinions of our own, no forecasts, no recommendations, no ads. The site keeps a few things in your browser only: your language, your votes and what you have already read. We do not track you across the web.
